Why you don’t need to compromise on practicality with this winter’s wardrobe

As the nights draw in and the wind grows colder, there’s no reason why you can’t keep warm and still look hot at the same time.
Bearing in mind how much time you’ll spend wearing it, finding the right coat or winter jacket is your essential statement item for winter. A truly great winter jacket should also be seen as an investment, something that will last in terms of both quality and style.

Faux fur is very in demand right now across a wide range of styles, from a G Star RAW fur-trimmed parka to an Oasis 1960s retro style coat to a Cotton Traders full faux fur coat. Not only does it look fabulous, it’s also extremely effective in trapping a layer of warm area around your upper body and keeping you warm whatever the weather.

A windcheater jacket from the likes of Bench or Superdry clothing will keep you safe from the rain while still retaining a stylish shape. The military-inspired look is also popular, with lots of fabulous detailing, from top brands such as French Connection, Kat Von D and Hilfiger.

Layer up with some stylish and cosy knitwear from the likes of Joe Browns, Superdry or Firetrap, or opt for a hoodie if you want a more streetwear look.

The military look is also popular for men, with Pea Coats and Reefer jackets now a winter ever-present. Look for brands like Firetrap or Superdry for great designs at midrange prices, or G-Star and Farrell if cost is less of an issue.

Three quarter length jackets are also a great winter choice thanks to their versatility, timeless appeal and added warmth, along with wool duffles, double breasted military jackets, fur trimmed parkas and tailored overcoats.

Superdry’s jacket range is particularly strong, offering a great mix of casual jackets with all Superdry’s usual vintage style – expect retro windcheaters, fur trimmed parkas and classic Pea Coats.

Robbie Williams’ new Farrell collection is inspired by classic Savile Row tailoring with an emphasis on premium workmanship, while Criminal Damage takes a more casual approach with a mix of preppy varsity jackets, padded gilets and quilted blousons.
